Read one word at a time, at a pace you set.
Autopace clears the screen and shows a single word in the middle, then the next, at a speed you choose. There is no line to lose and nothing else to look at.

Sunlight moved across the desk while the report stayed open. Page nine, page ten, a table of figures, another table. The words were all there and none of them stayed. The next paragraph began the same way the last one had, and you followed it with your eyes and nothing else.

Your pace drifts, and so does your attention
Without a beat you speed up on easy paragraphs, stall on hard ones, and slip into skimming without noticing. Autopace keeps the tempo steady so you can stop managing it.
What you get
One word, centred
A clean full-screen stage shows one word at a time. The bold letters can be any colour you pick.
Images are not skipped
Figures and images appear as a "figure" beat, so you know one went by.
Start where you are
Choose "Start where I click" and pick the word to begin from, instead of starting at the top of the page.
Scrub and check
A progress bar runs across the top. Drag it to jump, and hover to see the words around that spot before you commit.
Which pacer should I use?
| Autopace | Cadence | GlideMark | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you see | One word, centred on a clean screen | A highlight on one to four words | One band or underline that keeps growing |
| What moves | The word itself | The highlight jumps forward a step at a time | The edge of the band, letter by letter |
| What it does to the page | The page is replaced by a reading screen while it runs | Words are wrapped so they can be marked, then restored | Nothing. It uses the browser's own highlight feature |
| Reach for it when | You want no line to lose and nothing else in view | You want to see exactly which words are coming next | You want the lightest guide that never gets in the way |
What you can change
| Setting | What you can change |
|---|---|
| Speed dial | 3 to 50, default 10. The same dial drives Autopace, Cadence and GlideMark. |
| Pace | Dial × 30 words per minute: 300 at the default, 1,500 at the top, never below 90. |
| Bold strength and letter colour | Adjustable, and shared with bionic reading. |
Keyboard shortcuts
| Keys | What they do |
|---|---|
| Space | Play or pause |
| Left Right | Step back or forward |
| Up Down | Speed up or slow down by one |
| Esc | Exit |
Shortcuts ignore keys held with Ctrl, Cmd or Alt, keys pressed while you are typing, and keys aimed at a page's own menus and dialogs.
Works well on
- Web pages
- PDFs and EPUBs in the Skimora reader
Doesn't work on

Questions about Autopace
How fast can Autopace go?
The dial tops out at 1,500 words per minute. That is the limit of the pacer, not a promise about how fast you will understand. Start low and raise it until you feel you are near the edge of taking it in.
Is Autopace the same as Cadence or GlideMark?
No. Autopace replaces the page with one word at a time. Cadence and GlideMark leave the text where it is and move a highlight through it.
Is Autopace free?
Autopace is part of the lifetime license. You can try it on this page first.
